Overview

The Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) is designed for temporary workers in Canada who have already applied for permanent residence. Sometimes a person’s work permit may expire before their permanent residence application is approved. In such situations, the BOWP allows them to continue working legally in Canada while their immigration application is being processed.

This permit is called an open work permit, which means the person can keep their current job or work for a different employer. It helps applicants avoid losing their job while waiting for their permanent residence application to be finalized.
